Line Painting on Interstates 70 & 79 Begins Tomorrow in Washington County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing scheduled line painting operations on eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 and northbound and southbound Interstate 79 in Washington County, beginning Thursday, May 28.

Mobile work zones with slow-moving single-lane restrictions will occur during daylight hours, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. The District 12 paint crew will conduct the work, which is anticipated through Saturday, June 13. All work depends on weather and operations.

The paint crew will begin on I-70 westbound from Speers Borough to the West Virginia State Line and continue on I-70 eastbound to the I-70/I-79 interchange in South Strabane Township. The crew will then continue line painting on I-79 northbound and southbound from the I-70/I-79 interchange to the Allegheny County line.

Use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area. Drivers who encounter a line-painting operation should follow these guidelines:

  • Stay back at least 500 feet from the equipment.
  • Don’t drive on wet paint lines.
  • Don’t pass the paint truck or shadow vehicle.
  • Be patient as the paint truck will pull over periodically to let traffic pass.

PennDOT is generally not responsible for paint on vehicles. Drivers are responsible for operating their vehicles within the roadway lines and follow all warning and advisory signage. Additional information on the statewide line painting effort is available on PennDOT’s website
