Interstate 70 Speed Reduction and Lane Restrictions Continue in Washington County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing continued single-lane and speed restrictions on Interstate 70 in Donegal Township, Washington County.

Alternating single-lane closures will be in place for eastbound and westbound traffic, and a reduced 45-mph speed limit will be in place between the West Virginia state line and one mile east of Exit 1 (West Alexander).

Paving operations are underway to repair roadway surface changes resulting from Alliance Resource Partners, L.P., and Tunnel Ridge, LLC’s longwall mining operations at Tunnel Ridge Mine. Restrictions are anticipated until late May when roadway conditions allow for normal traffic flow.

Message boards are stationed in the area to notify of traffic patterns. Drivers are encouraged to use the zipper merge technique for enhanced efficiency and safety. Learn how and why by reading “The Zipper Merge: The Best Way to Merge in Traffic” from the American Automobile Association’s AAA Connect and viewing tutorials on YouTube.

Stay alert, exercise caution, and be courteous. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
