Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing the southbound I-79 structure repair work is anticipated to be completed ahead of schedule in Collier Township, Allegheny County weather permitting.
Due to a bridge strike on the structure carrying southbound I-79 over Thoms Run Road located approximately one-half mile north of the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) off-ramp, a right-hand lane and shoulder closure have been in place around-the-clock since December 23.
Previously, a release was issued detailing restrictions through Monday morning, February 16. Those restrictions will be in place overnight tonight, February 13 through Saturday morning, February 14 according to the following schedule:
- Thoms Run Road will close to traffic tonight from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM to allow crews to complete steel repair work.
All traffic will be detoured via Washington Pike (Route 50) and Prestley Road (Route 3031).
Once the steel repair work is completed, the southbound I-79 lane and shoulder closure will be lifted by 10:00 AM Saturday morning, February 14.
The Thoms Run Road and southbound I-79 restrictions could be lifted earlier if the work is completed sooner. Please stay alert and drive cautiously – safety is everyone’s responsibility.
There will be restrictions in the spring to accommodate painting operations. Additional details will be provided in advance of any work.
