Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge inspection activities on the southbound I-579 “Cap” Urban Connector in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Friday night, January 16 and Sunday night, January 18 weather permitting.
Inspection activities will occur on the “Cap” Urban Connector requiring a southbound I-579 lane restriction between the Bigelow Boulevard and Centre Avenue overpasses from 9:00 PM Friday night through 5:00 AM Saturday morning. Additionally, the following ramps will be closed and detoured while the inspection work occurs:
- Southbound Bedford Avenue ramp to southbound I-579
- Seventh Avenue ramp to southbound I-579
Additionally, a southbound I-579 lane restriction will occur in the same location from 9:00 PM Sunday night through 5:00 AM Monday morning. The above listed ramps will remain open during this inspection work.

- Turn right onto the ramp to 19/51 toward the Liberty Bridge

- Stay right toward PPG Arena
- Slight right onto Bedford Avenue to South 579/to 376 toward Monroeville/Liberty Bridge/Ft. Pitt Bridge
- Turn left onto Logan Street
- Turn left onto Bedford Avenue
- From Bedford Avenue, take the ramp to 7th Avenue/Fort Pitt Bridge
- Continue onto Seventh Avenue
- Turn left onto Liberty Avenue
- Turn left onto Wood Street
- Turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies
- Turn right onto the ramp to 19/51 toward the Liberty Bridge

Crews from HDR, Inc. and the Sofis Rigging Company will conduct the inspection work. Additional mainline I-579 restrictions and ramp closures will occur. Information will be provided in advance of any work occurring.
