Shapiro Administration Invests Over $2 Million in Beaver County Roads Through Multimodal Transportation Fund

Applications for the next Multimodal Transportation Fund round are being accepted until October 30.

Since Governor Shapiro took office, $197 million has been invested in local communities through the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

Pittsburgh, PA – Today, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll joined state and local officials to highlight over $2 million in investments in Monaca and Ambridge boroughs, Beaver County through the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF).  Governor Josh Shapiro recently announced an MTF investment of over $54 million in 50 infrastructure projects statewide. Since taking office, Governor Shapiro and his administration have invested over $197 million through the MTF to support transportation projects that improve safety, connect communities, and grow local economies across Pennsylvania.

“Communities across this commonwealth have important projects that need funding support, and the Multimodal Transportation Fund provides a great opportunity to get those projects across the finish line,” said Carroll. "We’re proud to support these transformative projects across the state, and encourage municipalities and other eligible applicants to consider pursuing a Multimodal Transportation Fund grant.”

In the $3.7 million, locally sponsored Monaca Gateway project, over $200,000 from the MTF supports the construction of a roundabout to reduce congestion and potential crashes at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street in Monaca Borough.

“These municipalities have been engaged from the beginning, ensuring they take full advantage of available funding opportunities,” said PennDOT District 11 Executive Jason Zang. “Their proactive approach and commitment to collaboration have helped to advance transportation improvements and enhance critical infrastructure needs within their communities.”

"The Gateway Roundabout Project is a great example of what can be accomplished when local and state governments work together toward a common goal, "said David Kramer, Monaca Borough Manager. "Since receiving grant funding, Monaca Borough has remained committed to seeing this important infrastructure improvement become a reality. Through our strong partnership with PennDOT and our state officials, we have been able to move forward with a project that will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and create a more welcoming entrance into our community. This project is another important piece of our ongoing efforts to revitalize Monaca and invest in its future.”

Secretary Carroll also highlighted a nearly $1.9 million MTF investment for safety and infrastructure upgrades along the Eighth Street (Route 989) corridor in Ambridge Borough, Beaver County.

The MTF provides grant funding to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities to improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit access. Applications for the next MTF funding round are being accepted until October 30.
