Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing restrictions on southbound Interstate 79 in Collier Township, Allegheny County are currently underway.
Due to a bridge strike on the structure carrying southbound I-79 over Thoms Run Road, a right-hand lane and shoulder closure have been implemented approximately one-half mile north of the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) off-ramp. These restrictions will remain in place indefinitely to accommodate additional analysis as well as the emergency design and repair work.
Details will be provided in advance of the emergency repair work beginning.
Additionally, Thoms Run Road between Route 50 and Neville Park Boulevard will have single-lane alternating traffic controlled by flaggers to allow crews to conduct inspection activities of the structure between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM today, Tuesday, December 23. These restrictions could be lifted earlier if the work is completed sooner.
Please stay alert and drive cautiously – safety is everyone’s responsibility.
