I-376 Parkway East Betterment Project Begins Monday in Allegheny County

Overnight lane and daytime ramp restrictions start next week

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing overnight single lane and daytime ramp restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood, Swissvale, and Churchill boroughs, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, January 5 weather permitting.

Starting Monday, overnight single lane closures will occur as needed on I-376 in each direction between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) and Churchill (Exit 79B) interchanges weeknights from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM with weekday shoulder closures from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and through late May.

Additionally, starting Monday, a traffic shift will occur as needed weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through late May on the following I-376 ramps:

·       Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange ramps

·       Eastbound I-376 ramp to Forest Hills (Exit 78A)

·       Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B) interchange ramps

·       Eastbound I-376 ramp to Greensburg Pike (Exit 79A)

·       Churchill (Exit 79B) interchange ramps

Crews will conduct minor preparation work for the upcoming project in the spring.

Work on mainline I-376 and the ramps will accommodate major events in the City of Pittsburgh.

The $100 million I-376 (Parkway East) betterment project will resurface the interstate and interchange ramps from the beginning of the Commercial Street Bridge in Edgewood Borough to the Monroeville (Exit 80) interchange. Additionally, bridge preservation to 20 structures including painting, approach slab replacement, concrete repairs, and other miscellaneous construction activities along with extensive drainage updates and a full concrete median barrier replacement. Safety improvements including a full highway lighting replacement from the Edgewood (Exit 77) to the PA Turnpike interchanges are included in this project. During the project, motorists can expect overnight and weekend lane restrictions on I-376 as well as short-term and long-term full closures of the interchange ramps. This project will be coordinated with other I-376 projects, including working during the Commercial Street Bridge Replacement project’s 25-day closure for the existing bridge demolition and lateral slide of the new bridge in July of 2026 to reduce impacts to the public. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the late fall of 2027. The Trumbull Corporation is the primary contractor.
