Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project Utility and Construction Update

Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is updating drivers on the Franklin Road Corridor Safety improvement Project as utility work wraps up and construction work begins on Franklin Road (Route 3021) between the intersections of Route 228 and Peters Road in Cranberry Township, Butler County.

Utility relocation and installation of water and gas lines are slated for completion by the end of May. There will continue to be multiple single lane restrictions in effect 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM with flagging operations.

As early as April 1, the contractor will begin the construction phase of the project. This includes installing new drainage, turning lanes and rumble strips, shoulder widening, and sight distance improvements with work continuing through December 31. Contractor traffic impacts will be 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

There will be significant impacts to traffic throughout this project, including traffic shifts, lane restrictions and road closures/detours. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and to monitor GPS systems or 511PA for traffic delays. Additional information will be shared prior to future traffic impacts such as detour routes, changes in work times, and additional lane restrictions.

The Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project includes shoulder widening, installation of edge-line rumble strips, and sight distance improvements along Franklin Road. Contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, PA will be completing this four-year $19.1 million project estimated to be completed in early November 2027.

Drivers can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a free smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following local alerts on X.
