Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a lane restriction along Route 68/East Jefferson Street will be in effect beginning on Sunday, November 9 for the Karns Crossing Bridge Project in Summit and Butler townships, Butler County.
Construction will begin on a temporary road as crews prepare for the second phase of the bridge project. Twenty-four-hour flagging will occur from November 9 through November 26. Work will pause for the holiday and resume on December 2 through December 19.
The single lane closure extends from Eau Claire Street in Butler Township to the intersection of Route 38 (Oneida Valley Road).
Motorists should expect delays and use caution in the area.
Contractor, Swank Construction Company, New Kensington, PA, will be completing this $64.8 million bridge replacement project, estimated to be completed in spring 2028.
The Karns Crossing Bridge project will replace two separate structures - the bridge itself that carries Route 68 over the railroad lines and the adjacent arch culvert over the Connoquenessing Creek. It also includes traffic safety and capacity improvements at the Route 68/Delwood Road intersection and the Route 68/US 422 eastbound on-ramp intersection.
