    Sidewalk Project to Start Soon along Route 18 in the City of Hermitage, Mercer County

    A project to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians along Route 18 in the City of Hermitage, Mercer County is scheduled to start next month.

    The project includes the construction of approximately 0.21 miles or 1,116 feet of concrete sidewalk between Route 518 (Lamor Road) and Highland Road. Work also includes ADA-compliant improvements, a small retaining wall to support the sidewalk, and a handrail.

    Construction is expected to begin June 8, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 2026.

    No detours are expected, though drivers may encounter lane restrictions and traffic controlled by flaggers as needed throughout the project.

    The contractor is Combine Construction Inc. of Sharon, PA. The contract cost is $245,288.82, which is being funded through the federal Transportation Alternatives Set Aside (TASA) program with the City of Hermitage serving as the sponsor.

    PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
