Paving Project to Start Next Month on Route 58 in Mercer County

A $4.4 million resurfacing project that will give motorists a smoother ride on nearly 10 miles of Route 58 in Mercer and Grove City boroughs, and Findley and Pine townships in Mercer County is scheduled to start March 2, 2026.

The project includes 9.7 miles of Route 58 (Main Street) from the intersection with Route 19 in Mercer Borough to the intersection with Campbell Drive.

Work will start with tree trimming on March 2, 2026, which is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.

The remainder of the project, which includes milling and paving, cleaning and updating ditches, inlets and drainage; guide rail and ADA-compliant curb ramp upgrades, as well as roadway painting and grass planting, will get underway April 1, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by September 2026.

Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions as well as traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Shields Asphalt Paving Inc of Valencia, PA. The contract cost is $ 4,463,353.85, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
