The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting drivers of upcoming nighttime work on Route 718 in the City of Sharon, Mercer County as part of a paving project.
Work is scheduled to take place from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM between September 2 and 5, 2025 in the downtown portion of the project. During that time, the roadway will be milled and paved.
On September 8, 2025, work will start on the retaining wall along Route 718 near Russell Street. In connection with that work, a detour will be posted using Clark Street (Route 3012) and Route 518. It is expected to take 12 days to complete the retaining wall work.
The work is part of a $4.3 million resurfacing project on more than 6 miles of Route 718 in the City of Sharon, the City of Hermitage and South Pymatuning Township, Mercer County. The project started in July and is expected to be completed in November 2025.
The project includes milling and paving Route 718 from Bank Place in downtown Sharon to the Ohio state border in South Pymatuning Township. Work also includes pedestrian improvements, updates to guide rail, roadway painting, and tree trimming.
The contractor is Lindy Paving, Inc. of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost is $4,239,533, which is to be paid with a combination of federal and state funds.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
