    High Friction Surface Treatment Application Has Begun in Armstrong, Butler and Clarion Counties

    Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing the application of a High Friction Surface Treatment will occur on multiple routes in Armstrong, Butler and Clarion Counties today through the end of May.

    Locations will include:

    Armstrong County

    • Route 422 between Rinker Hollow Road and Sandy Flat Road near Elderton
    • Route 28 between Iron Bridge Road and Lower Hayes Road near Spaces Corner
    • Route 2066 between Route 66 and Mansfield Grove Road near Leechburg
    • Route 268 north of Route 58 near Karns City

    Butler County

    • Route108 between Route 79 and Slippery Rock
    • Route 308 at Mahood Road near West Sunbury
    • Route 528 by the Evans City Reservoir

    Clarion County

    • Route 208 between Roberts Hill Road and Buckhorn Road near Shippenville
    • Route 322 at Kline Road near Kossuth

    During the application, weekdays from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, there will be single lane restriction. Work is weather dependent.

    High Friction Surface Treatment involves the application of aggregate to the pavement using a binder to restore and/or maintain pavement friction. The higher pavement friction helps motorists maintain better control in both dry and wet driving conditions.

    Mekis Construction of Fenelton, PA will be completing this $1.95 million project at 31 locations throughout Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana and Jefferson counties.

    Drivers can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

    511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
