Project Overview
County: Bucks
Municipalities: New Britain Borough, Chalfont Borough, New Britain Township
State Route(s): Route 2025
Local Name(s): Bristol Road
Project Type: Intersection Improvement
Last Updated: October 2025
The Bristol Road Extension project is located in Chalfont Borough, New Britain Borough, and New Britain Township, Bucks County. The project will involve the extension of Bristol Road from the existing terminus at Butler Avenue to the new proposed terminus at Park Avenue. This project will add an alternative parallel route to Main Street in Chalfont Borough. This portion of the project will require the construction of a four-span bridge over Pine Run, regrading for roadway embankments and stormwater facilities, roadway approach realignments, and reconstruction of the Bristol-Butler intersection to improve the orientation and traffic signal operations, considering the rail crossing.
To accommodate changes in traffic patterns from extending Bristol Road, additional improvements are proposed at the intersections of Park Avenue and Main Street (Route 152) as well as the Park Avenue and Ferry Road intersection. A left turn lane will be added on Park Avenue at the intersection with Main Street (Route 152). Improvements to the existing sidewalks, ADA curb ramp configurations, and private driveway adjustments are included at this location.
This project will also include a realignment of Park Avenue, Ferry Road, and Callowhill Road intersection. The intersection will transition from a three-way stop-controlled intersection to a signalized intersection. Turn lanes are also proposed at this intersection for each approach.
The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility within the transportation system for the traveling public, and emergency services, by addressing the existing roadway deficiencies and expanding the local roadway network.
