The project will replace the bridge at the existing location with a new two-span steel plate girder structure. The roadway across the bridge will have 11-foot travel lanes and 5-foot shoulders. The project also includes reconstructing roadway on each side of the bridge, upgrades to the guiderail and updates paint lines and other pavement markings, as well as placing rock to stabilize roadside slopes.

The former through-truss bridge was built in 1936. It was classified as poor condition.

Construction is expected to begin March 17, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed in November 2025.

The contractor is MEKIS Construction Corporation and the contract cost is $6,750,575.42.

The project will require a detour, which will be posted using Route 6, Route 198, and Interstate 79. It is expected to be in place for six months beginning in mid-April 2025.

A bicycle detour will be posted using Jordan Drive.

French Creek Access

Access to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission boat access area will be maintained throughout construction. There will be no permanent impacts to the area.

An Aids-to-Navigation (ATON) Plan was implemented to maintain use of the French Creek water trail during construction. The ATON Plan provides a safe navigation channel during most periods of construction. When certain overhead demolition and construction activities do not permit safe use of the navigation channel, a safe portage route around the construction area will be designated.

Additional Route 6 Bridge Project
