The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the closure of both the on and off ramps for Widman Street on Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) in Richland Township and the City of Johnstown in Cambria County on Monday, Sept. 29, and Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.
A detour will be in place for westbound traffic at Ramp V from Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) to Widman Street and Ramp W from Widman Street to Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway).
The work taking place includes milling, resurfacing, guide rail & drainage upgrades, signing and pavement markings, and concrete barrier adjustments.
The overall project begins in Richland Township at the intersection of Route 56 and U.S. 219, covering 4.7 miles of Route 56 and ends near the Route 3016 (Bedford Street) exit in the City of Johnstown. Quaker Sales Corporation of Johnstown, PA is the contractor for this $14.7 million project that is expected to be completed in mid-November 2025.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
