New Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Bridge Underway in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that daytime, weekday, single-lane restrictions on Route 51 are underway in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County. 

A southbound Route 51 single-lane restriction is in place between Finley Road and Ridge Road, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM from now through Friday, December 22, depending on weather and operations. Potential northbound restrictions may occur during the same hours in the same location. All lanes will be open throughout the weekends and any restrictions will be removed for inclement weather on weekdays.

Any possible northbound and/or southbound Route 51 restrictions between Finley Road and Concord Lane will occur Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and will be taken down daily. 

Crews from Golden Triangle and subcontractors will be performing work for the new Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Bridge, along with the overpass carrying Route 51 over Interstate 70, as part of the $120.6 million Interstate 70 at Route 51 Improvement Project, which is anticipated to be complete in October 2027.  

Exercise caution, remain alert, and follow the posted signs and speed limits. Safety is everyone's responsibility.
