This project involves safety improvements at two intersections in Upper Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. These improvements include minor roadway approach realignment, full-depth pavement widening to accommodate new turn lanes, installation of new traffic signals, updates to existing traffic signal phasing, adding retroreflective backplates to improve signal visibility, upgraded pavement markings/signage, mill and overlay, and installation of lighting luminaires. 

The proposed intersection improvements include the following:

Sumneytown Pike (Route 63) & Ridge Road (Route 563)/Old Skippack Road

  • Minor roadway approach realignment
  • Installation of new traffic signals, signal cabinet, and retroreflective backplates
  • New luminaires to be installed on new signal poles
  • Full-depth pavement widening for new left-turn lanes on Sumneytown Pike (Route 63)
  • New right turn lane on southbound Ridge Rd (Route 563)
  • Minor driveway adjustments 
  • Installation of new pavement markings and signage.

Sumneytown Pike (Route 63) & Barndt Road

  • Full-depth pavement widening for new left-turn lanes on Sumneytown Pike (Route 63)
  • Existing Traffic signal and controller cabinet replacement, including luminaires
  • Installation of retroreflective backplates on traffic signals
  • Installation of new guiderail
  • Minor driveway adjustments
  • Installation of new pavement markings and signage

A series of drainage improvements is proposed to collect the additional surface runoff from the widened sections of roadway.
