    The intersections within this interchange are included in a larger project that will reconstruct U.S. 1 (the Kennett-Oxford Bypass) from Route 896 (Newark Road) to Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) within Upper Oxford, Penn, and London Grove Townships, Chester County. The purpose of improving these intersections is to provide intersection control and lane configurations that will lead to improved safety and acceptable traffic operations in the opening and future years. The preferred alternative consists of hybrid roundabouts at the intersections of PA 41 and the ramps to U.S. 1. The roundabouts will provide safety improvements to both intersections and will accommodate the predicted traffic volumes for the future.

    The proposed interchange improvements at this location also involve the reconstruction and overlay of Route 41 for approximately 1,900 feet and the replacement of the Route 41 bridge over U.S. 1 to provide adequate vertical clearance for vehicles on U.S. 1. The ramps at this interchange will also be lengthened to provide the required acceleration and deceleration lanes for entering and exiting vehicles to and from U.S. 1.

    The project’s preliminary design phase is underway and is anticipated to be completed in late 2025. It is anticipated that a public open house will be held in fall 2025 as part of the preliminary design phase. Final design activities (including public outreach, right-of-way acquisitions, utility coordination, and environmental permitting) will follow. Upon completion of right-of-way acquisitions and environmental permitting approval from the appropriate agencies, construction is anticipated to commence.
