    Truck Detour Lifted One Month Early on Five-Points Intersection Route 309 to Route 463 (Cowpath Road) in Montgomery Township

    King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the detour for truck traffic travelling from southbound Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) to westbound Route 463 (Cowpath Road) will be lifted on Friday, May 1, under the $14.2 million project to improve travel and safety through the Five-Points Intersection in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County.

    This new traffic pattern marks a shift into Stage 4 on the Five-Points Intersection Improvement project.

    Lane closures on Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road), and Doylestown Road will be put in place as needed during Stage 4. PennDOT will continue to provide updates.

    Under this intersection improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor will install additional through-lanes at the intersection approaches in both directions on Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road) and on southbound Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike). Widening of the roadway will allow for 18 travel lanes to approach the intersection, compared to the existing 15 travel lanes, to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes.

    Other improvements include upgrading and retiming signalization; installing sidewalks, ADA curb ramps, and guiderail; upgrading stormwater drainage, signage, and pavement markings; adjusting driveway access; and reducing erosion sediment.

    Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
