PennDOT to Begin Construction on Broad Run Road Bridge Replacement Project in New Garden Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Monday, June 1, on a project to replace the bridge that carries Broad Run Road over Broad Run Creek in New Garden Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Local access will be maintained. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, the existing 95-year-old single span, one-lane concrete encased steel I-beam structure will be replaced four rolled steel beams. The current bridge is 38 feet long, 19.5 feet wide and carries more than 2,100 vehicles per day. The new bridge will be widened to accommodate two 10 feet travel lanes from a single lane of traffic on the existing bridge. In addition to the increased travel width, 32 feet tall concrete barriers will be place along with new approach slabs/moment slabs to accommodate new barrier transitions.

Additional work under this project includes paving to match the existing roadway heights and replacing approach guiderail.

The current structure is listed in poor condition.

This repair work is part of a $4.2 million project to replace several structures in Bucks and Chester counties.

C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc. of New Jersey. is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
