PennDOT Highlights Enforcement of Operation Yellow Jacket in Schuylkill County

Allentown, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) collaborated recently in the enforcement of work zone safety laws through Operation Yellow Jacket details.
Operation Yellow Jacket is a collaborative initiative between PennDOT and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) to enhance safety for motorists and maintenance crews on Pennsylvania highways. The program operates around the clock, with deployments occurring both day and night to ensure continuous protection during ongoing 24-hour construction activities.
“We appreciate the Pennsylvania State Police partnering with the PennDOT District 5 Schuylkill County office for the second year to keep work zones safe for both the traveling public and our highway workers,” said PennDOT Schuylkill County Maintenance Manager Kevin Kull. “Each year it becomes more dangerous to perform road maintenance work safely, and with the support of Pennsylvania State Police we can reduce unsafe driving behaviors. I cannot stress enough the importance of respecting work zones and remaining patient, so everyone gets home safely.”
The three-day deployments in Interstate 81 work zones in June resulted in the following statistics:
• Citations and warnings for speeding and other various offenses: 40
• Drug arrests: 1
• Fastest speed coming into the work zone: 95 mph
