Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work to replace a Route 948 bridge spanning Little Mill Creek approximately two miles north of Montmorenci in Ridgway Township starts Monday, April 13. Replacing this structure that was built in 1951 and carries an average of more than 1,000 vehicles daily will improve the ride quality across the bridge and improve its overall condition rating.
Starting Monday, drivers can expect to encounter flaggers in the roadway, providing traffic control, as the contractor performs shoulder widening, installs concrete barriers, and places temporary traffic signals at each end of the bridge. Starting Thursday, April 16, the contractor will close the northbound lane heading toward Warren and activate the temporary traffic signals. PennDOT expects work in this lane to continue into mid-July before shifting to the southbound lane heading toward Ridgway Borough. It will issue an update before the second phase of construction begins.
Work scheduled under this contract includes demolition of the existing bridge, construction of its replacement, approach paving, guide rail installation, line painting, and miscellaneous construction. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion, PA, is the contractor on this $2.4 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in early November, but all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
