Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a Centre County highway resurfacing project will move to Route 550 in Bellefonte starting at 6:00 PM on Monday, July 6 This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of more than seven miles of road across three routes in Centre County.
Starting Monday evening, drivers should expect to encounter flaggers in the roadway along Route 550 (Bishop Street) in Bellefonte Borough as crews begin milling and paving the roadway. Work will occur between the hours of 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM throughout the week. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution while traveling through all work zones, obey flaggers and other posted work zone signage, watch for slow moving or stopped vehicles, and always buckle up.
Crews also plan to begin milling on Route 550 (High Street) on Wednesday, July 8, adhering to the same schedule as on Bishop Street.
Overall work on this contract includes milling, paving, line painting, and miscellaneous construction. Work started on Route 45 earlier this construction season, and other roads that will see work as part of this project include Route 1008 (Howard Street) in Bellefonte.
Glenn O. Hawbaker of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $2.2 million contract. PennDOT anticipates all work associated with this contract being completed by the end of August, but all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
