PennDOT Trains Operators on Wing Plows in Westmoreland County Ahead of Winter Weather

Uniontown, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is conducting specialized wing plow training in Westmoreland County to help operators improve efficiency in snow removal and prepare for winter weather.

The two-week training, running October 26 through November 6 in Latrobe, brings together experienced operators and newer team members to develop the skills needed to safely and effectively operate wing plows.

Wing plows extend beyond the side of a standard snowplow, allowing operators to clear a wider area of roadway in a single pass.

“Preparing our operators before winter weather arrives is an important part of keeping our crews and the traveling public safe,” said PennDOT District 12 Assistant District Executive for Maintenance Robb Dean. “This training gives our teams the opportunity to sharpen their skills and become more proficient with the equipment they rely on to keep roads clear during winter storms.”
