    Outbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes to Close Nightly Next Week in Allegheny County

    Extended weekend closure to occur.

     

    Closures necessary for work zone safety for Jacks Run Bridge project.

    Pittsburgh, PA –The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing closures of the outbound I-279 and I-579 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in the City of Pittsburgh and Ross Township, Allegheny County will begin Monday night, July 27 weather permitting.

    To ensure work zone safety at the Jacks Run Road Bridge, the HOV lanes will close to traffic in the outbound (northbound) direction according to the following schedule:

    Monday through Thursday nights, July 27-30

    • Each night from 8:00 PM until the directional switch is made for the morning rush hour

    Friday night through Monday morning, July 31-August 3

    • A single lane of I-279/I-579 HOV northbound (outbound) will be closed, and traffic at the McKnight Road exit will be diverted off the HOV from 7:00 PM to midnight Friday. After midnight, the HOV will be fully closed from 12:01 AM Saturday until 6:00 AM Monday, August 3.

    The HOV lanes will return to normal operations outside of the closures listed above.

    Travelers can check conditions on major roads by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
