Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing lane and ramp restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood, Swissvale, Braddock Hills and Churchill boroughs, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, March 30 weather permitting.
Median barrier replacement and shoulder reconstruction work requiring around-the-clock lane shifts will be implemented on I-376 in each direction between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange and the Monroeville (Exit 80) exit through late October. To allow this work to occur, single-lane restrictions will occur from 9:00 PM Monday to 5:00 AM Tuesday, to conduct line eradication, pavement markings, and temporary barrier installation to facilitate the traffic shifts. Once that work is concluded, traffic will be shifted into the new long-term configuration. Two 11-foot lanes will be maintained in this new configuration. However, the current single lane closures will continue as needed on I-376 in each direction weeknights from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM through late May.
Additionally, starting Monday at 9:00 PM, the following I-376 ramps will be shifted and reduced to 11-foot lanes around-the-clock through late June for bridge and roadway reconstruction work:
· Westbound I-376 on-ramp from Edgewood/Swissvale (after the two ramps from South Braddock Avenue and West Swissvale Avenue converge)
· Eastbound I-376 off-ramp to Edgewood (Exit 77) toward South Braddock Avenue
The $100 million I-376 (Parkway East) betterment project will resurface the interstate and interchange ramps from the beginning of the Commercial Street Bridge in Edgewood Borough to the Monroeville (Exit 80) interchange in the Municipality of Monroeville. Additionally, bridge preservation to 20 structures including painting, approach slab replacement, concrete repairs, and other miscellaneous construction activities along with extensive drainage updates and a full concrete median barrier replacement. Safety improvements including a full highway lighting replacement from the Edgewood (Exit 77) to the PA Turnpike interchanges are included in this project. During the project, drivers can expect overnight and weekend lane restrictions on I-376 as well as short-term and long-term full closures of the interchange ramps. This project will be coordinated with other I-376 projects, including working during the Commercial Street Bridge Replacement project’s 25-day closure for the existing bridge demolition and lateral slide of the new bridge in July of 2026 to reduce impacts to the public. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the spring of 2028. The Trumbull Corporation is the primary contractor.
