Route 2051 Main Street Closures Begin Monday in East Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of a portion of Route 2051 (Main Street) in East Pittsburgh Borough, Allegheny County will begin on Monday, July 28 weather permitting.  

Main Street will be closed to traffic between Howard Street and Center Street around-the-clock from 6 a.m. Monday, July 28 continuously through approximately 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 11 to allow crews to conduct roadway reconstruction work.  Traffic will be detoured.

·       Take Center Street eastbound to Route 30

·       Take Route 30 westbound

·       Turn left onto Yost Boulevard

·       Turn left onto Wolfe Avenue

·       Wolfe Avenue becomes Pallas Street

·       Turn right onto Brinton Avenue

·       Brinton Avenue becomes Main Street

·       Follow Main Street back to Howard Street

·       End detour

From Main Street/Howard Street intersection

·       Follow Main Street northbound

·       Main Street becomes Brinton Avenue

·       Turn left onto Pallas Street

·       Bear right onto Wolfe Avenue

·       Turn right onto Yost Boulevard

·       Turn right onto Route 30

·       Follow Route 30 back to Center Street

·       Turn right onto Center Street

·       Turn left onto Grandview Avenue

·       Turn right onto Bessemer Avenue

·       Follow Bessemer Avenue back to Main Street

·       End detour

Elite Coach Transportation, Inc. will provide a temporary construction shuttle service during the roadway closure to accommodate PRT bus stops. The hours of service will be posted at each location and copies will be provided on the shuttles. The shuttle service will be in the following locations:

Shuttles will run from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday during the road closures. The shuttle will start at Dynamo Way/Electric Avenue intersection and end at Braddock Hills Shopping Plaza on Yost Boulevard on weekdays. The shuttle will reverse directions on the weekends. The shuttle loop will take approximately 30 minutes.

Roadway reconstruction work will continue on Main Street once this phase is complete. Closures will continue on Main Street in several block segments until the work reaches South Street.

The project along Route 2051 (Center Street/Main Street/Brinton Avenue) between Route 30 in East Pittsburgh Borough and Bowers Street in North Braddock Borough will include removing the brick roadway portions and reconstructing/resurfacing with asphalt, repairing concrete curbs, ADA curb ramp updates, and other miscellaneous construction. Motorists will encounter periodic parking and lane restrictions with flaggers, as well as short and long-term closures of sections requiring a detour. The overall project is anticipated to be completed late December 2025.
