Paving Project to Start Soon on Route 285 in Crawford County

A $4.6 million project to pave Route 285 in Greenwood and Fairfield townships, Crawford County is scheduled to start next week.

Work will be completed from the intersection of Route 285 and Route 19 (Perry Highway) near the Interstate 79 interchange in Geneva to the intersection of Route 285 and Route 173  near Cochranton.

The project includes milling, road base repairs as needed, paving, drainage guiderail and road paint updates.

Construction is expected to begin on June 16, 2026, weather permitting, and to be completed by fall 2026.

Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers.

The contractor is Sheilds Asphalt Paving Valencia, PA. The contract cost is $4,592,555.55, which is to be paid with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.

PennDOT urges drivers to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
