Bridge Project to Start Soon on Route 718 in City of Sharon, Mercer County

A $1.4 million project to replace the bridge that carries Route 718 (Dock Street) over Pine Run in the City of Sharon, Mercer County is scheduled to start soon.

The project will include replacing the existing structure with a cast-in-place concrete box culvert. Work will also include paving, updated guide rail, drainage, sidewalk, curb ramps, signs, and roadway paint.

Construction is expected to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 2026.

No detours are expected in connection with the project. A temporary road will be constructed for traffic to use while the existing bridge is removed and the new box culvert is constructed.

Drivers may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers and should expect minor travel delays during active work hours.

The existing single span steel I-beam bridge was built in 1923. It is rated in poor condition. Approximately 7,000 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is C.H. & D. Enterprises Inc. of New Stanton, PA. The contract cost is $1,406,987.30 which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
