Project Overview
County: Lehigh
Municipality: Lynn Township
State Route: 4037
Local Names: Donats Peak Road
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
MPMS Number: 110066
Proposed Construction Start: Spring 2027
Last Updated: August 2025
The project bridge is a two-lane structure which carries SR 4037, Donats Peak Road, over Kistler Creek. Built in 1910, it has two spans and an overall length of 12 feet. The structure consists of a steel pipe culvert. The curb-to-curb width is 19.8 feet. SR 4037 is classified as a local road. Traffic data from the Traffic Information Repository (TIRe) indicates that SR 4037 has an ADT of 138 (2026 projected volume) with 3% truck traffic. The posted speed limit is 30 mph.
Deterioration over the years has resulted in the culvert being listed in poor condition in accordance with the most recent bridge inspection. Based on the condition rating of ‘3 – Serious’, the structure is considered structurally deficient. Based on the structural condition, the structure is considered functionally obsolete.
The scoping phase of this project indicated that replacement is necessary due to the condition of the existing structure. The replacement structure will be located on approximately the same horizontal and vertical alignments as the existing structure and will be widened to meet current PennDOT standards for bridge width. The scope of the project will involve replacing the existing structure with a precast concrete box culvert and precast concrete end sections. The replacement structure will be built to existing design standards and the existing SR 4037 pavement in the approaches will be rebuilt and widened to facilitate the new structure.
