Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plan display regarding the Route 2001 (Hillsdale Road) structure replacement over a tributary to Conewago Creek, in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing masonry arch culvert and provide continued safe and efficient access on Route 2001 over the tributary to Conewago Creek.
The existing structure, built in 1920 and reconstructed in 1982, is a masonry arch culvert on a 90-degree skew. The culvert length is approximately 10-foot, with a 17-foot 4-inch curb-to-curb clear roadway width.
The existing masonry arch culvert will be replaced with a 10-foot by 9-foot precast reinforced concrete box culvert on the same alignment in the same location with minimal approach roadway work. Additional work includes placing rock scour protection at the inlet and outlet of the culvert, reconstructing the pavement along the roadway tie-ins, and installing MASH-compliant guide rail, where applicable. The existing single lane corridor through this site will be updated to feature two 10-foot lanes and 2-foot shoulders.
This section of Hillsdale Road has an average daily traffic volume of 326 vehicles per day.
The bridge will be closed for approximately 6 months to all traffic during construction. The proposed 5.8-mile detour will use T-486 (Gingrich Road), Route 441, and Route 4008 (Turnpike Road) to route the traffic back onto Hillsdale Road (T-304 and Route 2001). Access to all driveways within the project limits will be maintained during construction.
Overhead utilities are present at the site with temporary utility relocations anticipated.
The project is currently in design, and construction work is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027 and last approximately 6 months.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns regarding the project.
A digital version of the project plans and information will be available to view online through July 2, 2025.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
