PennDOT Seeking Applications for Paid Internships for College Students and Summer Employment Program for Students and Non-Students

Hollidaysburg, PA Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) District 9 is currently accepting applications for paid internships for college students and summer employment programs for both students and non-students in our region.

District 9, which serves Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset counties, is seeking college students for engineering and non-engineering positions at the main office in Hollidaysburg, Pa., as well as students and non-students for temporary, seasonal positions located across the District’s six counties. 2025 Engineering Internship PennDOT District 9

This internship opportunity will provide hands-on experience and exposure to various engineering projects and processes within our organization. As an Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers and gain valuable skills that will kickstart your career in engineering.

2025 Scientific and Technical Internship PennDOT District 9

This internship offers a unique opportunity to enhance your technical abilities, translate academic knowledge into practical applications, and collaborate with professionals committed to innovation and excellence.

2025 Non-Engineering Internship STAMPP PennDOT District 9

STAMPP is the Systematic Technique to Analyze and Manage Pennsylvania’s Pavements (STAMPP) program. STAMPP interns will conduct field surveys to assess the conditions of shoulders and guiderails, with the purpose of providing quantified location specific, condition data on the state highway system.

2025 Student Summer Worker PennDOT All Districts

Student summer workers will assist in seasonal maintenance work, crash system input and analysis, assisting in the garage, and maintenance and custodial services at roadside rest facilities. Many students also perform laboring and flagging duties in maintenance organizations and at highway worksites.

PennDOT Summer Employment Program for Students and Non-students

PennDOT is also seeking hard-working individuals – either students or non-students – for employment from early April through October for the Summer Employment Program. These roles have the potential for promotion into a permanent position.

  • Custodial Worker 1
  • Highway Maintenance Worker
  • Semi-Skilled Laborer
  • Transportation Equipment/CDL Operator

Because most positions work outside, there may be instances when work will occur in adverse weather conditions. Opportunities are based upon operational needs, so there may not be open positions for each job title in every county.
