Work Begins Monday, March 31

Minor Delays Expected on Route 220 (Bedford Valley Road) in Centerville, Bedford County, for ICWS Installation

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists to expect minor delays of approximately 15 minutes or less at the intersection of Route 220 (Bedford Valley Road) and Route 3009/T-403 (White Church Road) in Centerville, Bedford County, beginning Monday, March 31.

Contractor New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., New Enterprise, Pa., will be installing an Intersection Conflict Warning System (ICWS), including loop sensors and solar-powered flashing warning devices, under standard daylight flagging traffic control.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

Part of a 2-year, $1,299,000.00 project, the ICWS warns drivers approaching two-way, stop-controlled intersections of potential conflicts with other vehicles to help reduce collisions and improve safety. The project also includes ICWS installation in Imler, King Township, Bedford County, at the intersection of Route 4009 (North Imler Valley Road) and Route 4034 (Mowry’s Mill Road/Sarah Furnace Road), and in New Centerville, Somerset County, at the intersection of Route 281 (New Centerville Road), Route 653 (Bridge Street) and Route 3029 (Copper Kettle Highway) in 2025.
