Overnight Weekend Detour Planned for Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road) Bridge Replacement Project in Pleasantville, Bedford County, Begins June 6

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of a detour of Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road) beginning Friday, June 6, 2025, in Pleasantville, Bedford County, for a bridge replacement project. 

The work is part of the Route 56 over Barefoot Run tributary bridge project, which includes the replacement of an existing bridge-structure in Pleasantville, Bedford County, with an elliptical pipe.

On Friday, June 6, work will begin with a single-lane closure under general flagging traffic controls. At 7:00 PM, a 27-mile, overnight weekend (7:00 PM Friday to 6:00 AM Monday) detour will reroute traffic using Route 96 (Cortland Road) to Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) to Route 56 (Pensy Hollow Road/Quaker Valley Road). The detour will remain in place until 6:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2025.

Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co. Inc., of Hollidaysburg is the contractor for the $7,290,201.17 project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed in November.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
