Traffic to be restricted for bridge inspection
Harrisburg, PA – Motorists in the Harrisburg area are advised there will be daytime lane restrictions next week on the northbound Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Cumberland and Dauphin counties so an inspection can be performed.
Weather permitting, this work will be performed Monday May 1, through Friday, May 5.
The northbound I-83 right lane will be closed from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day from the Lemoyne on-ramp to approximately the middle of the bridge. Three lanes will remain open each of day.
Inspectors plan to inspect the South Bridge using an inspection crane from the roadway.
There will be lane closures in the subsequent weeks throughout May in both directions to be announced.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.
