Schedule Update: Ramp Closures at SB Route 222 and Route 772 (Newport Road) at the Brownstown/Rothsville Exit in Lancaster County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the closures planned for southbound Route 222 off-ramp to Route 772 and Route 772 on-ramp to southbound Route 222 at the Brownstown/Rothsville Exit at the 3.3-mile pavement preservation project on Route 222 in Manheim, Warwick, and West Earl townships, Lancaster County, have been rescheduled. These closures will allow the contractor to perform paving on the ramps.

The schedule initially called for southbound Route 222 off-ramp to Route 772 to be closed the night of Tuesday, June 3, and the on-ramp from Route 772 to southbound Route 222 will be closed the night of Wednesday, June 4, weather permitting.

This work has been pushed out one day to the nights of Wednesday, June 4, and Thursday, June 5.

Weather permitting, the southbound Route 222 off-ramp to Route 772 will be closed from midnight the night of Wednesday, June 4, to 6:00 AM the morning of Thursday, June 5.

A detour will be in place during the closure. Southbound Route 222 wishing to exit to Route 772 should take Route 222 south to Route 272 (Oregon Pike) Exit, then take Route 272 south to Jake Landis Road, turn left onto Jake Landis Road, then left on Butter Road to take northbound Route 222 to Route 772.

Weather permitting, the on-ramp from Route 772 to southbound Route 222 will be closed from 10:00 PM Thursday, June 5, to 6:00 AM Friday, June 6.

A detour will be in place during the closure. Route 772 traffic wishing to go south on Route 222 should head north on Route 222 to the Route 322 (Ephrata) Exit and then return south on Route 222.

This project consists of bituminous resurfacing, full-width milling, base repair, concrete patching, guide rail updates, line painting, and sign updates on northbound and southbound Route 222 from the Bushong Road overhead bridge to the Pool Road overhead bridge.

The northbound Route 222 roadway work was completed last year. However, there will be weekend lane closures this year on northbound Route 222 for bridge work.

Work in the southbound direction, including the southbound ramps at the interchange, is expected to be completed this year.

There will be nighttime lane restrictions in the southbound lanes and periodic overnight closures of the southbound Route 222 ramps at the Route 772 (Brownstown/Rothsville) Interchange. Updates will be issued prior to any ramp closures.

Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor on this $8,486,591 project.

All work is expected to be completed October 20, 2025.
