Route 199 Reconstruction Project Continues in Sayre and Athens, Bradford County

Montoursville, PA – A four-year reconstruction project continues next week on Route 199 in Sayre and Athens, Bradford County. The 2.6-mile project is located .44-mile north of the intersection with Front Street (Route 1056) in Athens Borough to the intersection with the Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 17) at the New York state line in Sayre Borough. The project begins at the New York state line and works south.

Route 199 is now open in both directions between Pine Street and Vanderbilt Street in Athens Township.

Traffic Update
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, between the hours of 7:30 AM and 8:00 PM, Route 199 will be closed in both directions between Pine Street and Cherry Street, while the contractor installs a stormwater pipe. 

A detour using Cherry Street, Wells Avenue, and Pine Street will be in place while work is being performed.

Detour information:

  • Truck traffic will follow a 7.7-mile detour using Route 220 and the Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 17).​

Motorists should be alert, slow down, through the work zone.

Kriger Construction, Inc., is the prime contractor on this $16.4 million, four-year roadway reconstruction project. Work on this project includes drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk and curb improvements, ADA curb ramp installations, traffic signal upgrades, driveway adjustments, signing and pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction. The project is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2024.
