    PennDOT Issues Update on Roadway Improvement Project on Route 522 in Mifflin County, Week of June 17

    ​Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an update for a project on approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough and Derry and Decatur townships in Mifflin County for the week of June 17. This work will improve deficiencies in the drainage throughout this corridor and improve the ride quality of the roadway and multiple structures within the project limits.

    • Monday, widening work will begin near Long Lane to Crossover Road in the left lane. Steel plates will be available to allow access in and out of driveways and side roads.​

    • Tuesday and Wednesday, roadway widening will begin between Crossover Road and Arnold Lane.

       
    • Thursday, work will be between Arnold Lane and Maplewood Ave. in the left lane.

       
    • Friday, work will be between Fernwood Ave. and Meadowbrook Lane.

       
    • Concurrently with the widening work, the contractor will place material along the edge of the roadway as part of the stabilization of the shoulder. The contractor will reset mailboxes as needed if they are in these areas of work.

     
    Single lane closures with flaggers are being utilized for this work. Work is scheduled during daylight hours between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Long term signage will notify the public when entering the project limits. Workers will be in the roadway and motorists are advised to be alert for sudden stops. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and be prepared for traffic delays.

    This project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, installation of guiderail, placement of pavement markings, bridge preservation work, and related tasks. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this project, which has an estimated cost of $6.2 million project.

    Project completion is estimated for late October 2024. All work and scheduling is weather dependent.

    PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution and not to follow trucks into the closed lane as they deliver material.
