Bridge Painting Work Begins Next Week near Mt Union

On Monday, April 24, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will start a bridge painting project on Route 3017 (Country Club Road), near Mt Union. The bridge spans Route 522 and the Juniata River at the Huntingdon/Mifflin County line.

Originally constructed in 1971, the 508-foot bridge carries an average of more than 900 vehicles each day. Painting the bridge will improve its structural coating and keep it in active service.

To enhance safety and provide room for the painting work, the northbound lane of the bridge will be closed starting on Monday. Temporary traffic signals will be used to enforce an alternating traffic pattern across the bridge.

Legend Painting, Inc. of Campbell, Ohio is the contractor on this $700,000 project. PennDOT anticipates completion by the end of August, with all work weather dependent.

Motorists are encouraged to "Know Before They Go" by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
