Route 68 Improvement Project Begins Tuesday in Beaver County

Long-term closure of Virginia Avenue to be implemented

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing roadway improvement work on Route 68 (Adams Street, Virginia Avenue) in Rochester Borough and Rochester Township, Beaver County will begin Tuesday, May 27 weather permitting.

A portion of Virginia Avenue will close to traffic long-term beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday continuously through mid-October between Jefferson Street and Sunflower Road. Crews will conduct full-depth roadway reconstruction, drainage cleaning and upgrades, guide rail updates, concrete curbing installation and repair, shoulder improvements, line painting and other miscellaneous construction work.  Traffic will be detoured.

  • 13th Street becomes Marion Hill Road
  • Follow Marion Hill Road back to Route 68 (Sunflower Road)

  • From Route 68 (Sunflower Road), turn onto Marion Hill Road
  • Marion Hill Road becomes 13th Street
  • Turn left onto southbound Route 18 (3rd Avenue)
  • Take the left-hand ramp to Route 68 toward (Beaver/Rochester)
  • From southbound Route 18 (Delaware Avenue), turn left onto West Madison Street
  • Bear right onto Brighton Avenue
  • Follow Brighton Avenue to the Rochester Roundabout
  • From the roundabout, take Adams Street toward East 68
  • End detour

Local traffic will have access to homes and businesses during construction.

Lindy Paving, Inc. is the prime contractor on this $5.49 million project. The project is anticipated to take two construction seasons, wrapping in November of 2026 and will include roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements, guide rail and signing updates, traffic signal upgrades, pavement markings and delineation, and other miscellaneous construction from the roundabout in Rochester Borough continuing approximately 1.3 miles to the intersection of Route 68 (Virginia Avenue) and Sunflower Road in Rochester Township. During construction, Route 68, Adams Street/Virginia Avenue will be closed and detoured, but not simultaneously, to allow the reconstruction work to occur in small sections with access to businesses and homes maintained.
