Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is continuing work on the Wayne Avenue and Carter Avenue structure replacement with resurfacing on South 7th Street at “The Point" the evening of June 7, 2024
In preparation for increased traffic near the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex (KCAC) for the Indiana High School graduation ceremony, PennDOT is reminding motorists of active construction in the area.
Crews will be resurfacing South 7th Street between Locust/Wayne Avenue and South 7th Street/South Street beginning at 6 PM on June 7 and continuing through 6 AM June 8. During this time, traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone with flaggers present.
Traffic on Wayne Avenue remains restricted to one lane in each direction with an 11-foot lane width restriction between Hospital Road and Maple Street.
Carter Avenue remains closed from Wayne Avenue to South 7th Street. These restrictions and closures started May 13 (after the Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduation) and will finish August 16 (prior to the start of the Indiana County Fair). To detour, motorists will travel South 6th Street to Indian Springs Road to Wayne Avenue.
There is no left turn onto Hospital Road when travelling south on Wayne Avenue. To detour, motorists will take Wayne Avenue to Pratt Drive to Hospital Road.
There is also a pedestrian detour in front of the KCAC. The pedestrian detour will be Wayne Avenue to Prat Drive to Wayne Avenue.
The $11.9 million project is estimated to be completed in October 2024 by contractor, HRI, Inc. of State College.
