Maintenance Work Planned on Interstate 79 Bridges in the City of Erie

Employees from the Erie County facility of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be doing routine maintenance work on the bridges that carries Interstate 79 over the CSX & Norfolk Southern railroads, Irwin Drive, Rudolph Avenue, and West 16th Street between Route 5 (12th Street) and Route 20 (26th Street) in the City of Erie.

Work is expected to happen between 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM from May 6 to May 15, 2025, weather permitting.

Motorists should be alert for lane restrictions and closures on I-79 near the bridge as well as the ramp from Route 5 to I-79 southbound.

Drivers should use alternate routes if possible as travel delays in that area are likely throughout the day.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
