The project involves the replacement of the State Route 4031 bridge, which carries Raven Run Road over Shenandoah Creek in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County. The existing steel I-beam bridge will be replaced with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert, with a slightly widened typical section, providing a widened left shoulder to accommodate staged construction. The existing typical section of the roadway consists of two 10’-0” travel lanes with minimal shoulders.
The proposed section will provide a 6’-0” left shoulder anda 1’-0” right shoulder. The roadway is posted with a 30-mph speed limit. The roadway has a current average daily traffic volume of 166 vehicles/day with 5% truck traffic. The proposed Raven Run Road horizontal and vertical alignments will closely follow the existing conditions. Roadway approach paving and new guide rail will be placed on each end of the proposed structure.
