Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge repair, milling, and paving operations will occur at night next week on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) under a $37.9 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges in the City of Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, May 19, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp to eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) from U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to use westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access U.S. 1 (City Avenue).
- Monday, May 19, through Thursday, May 22, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on sections of I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in both directions between the U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and I-676 interchanges.
- Tuesday, May 20, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from Montgomery Drive to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to use Belmont Avenue and Girard Avenue to access the ramp to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Wednesday, May 21, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on the ramp from U.S. 1 (City Avenue) to eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Wednesday, May 21, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route.
- Thursday, May 22, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramps to-and-from eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to use westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access Girard Avenue.
- Friday, May 23, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from Girard Avenue to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to use Belmont Avenue and Montgomery Drive to access the ramp to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
