Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said work on a bridge replacement project along Route 522 in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, will start on Monday, March 3. Replacing the bridge, which spans Jack’s Creek about a mile southwest of Wagner, will enhance the ride quality and improve the structure’s overall condition rating from poor to good.

Starting March 3, the contractor will close the southbound shoulder while it builds a temporary bridge around the work zone. The southbound lane, which takes drivers toward Lewistown, will remain open. However, workers will be in the roadway while the contractor builds the temporary bridge. PennDOT urges drivers to stay alert, exercise caution, and not follow trucks into the closed lane while they deliver material.

Once complete, the temporary bridge will allow the contractor to maintain two open lanes while it builds the replacement structure. Once the new bridge is complete, the contractor will remove the temporary bridge.

Overall work consists of removing the existing bridge, building its replacement, paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation is the contractor on this $2.9 million project. PennDOT anticipates reopening the bridge to traffic in mid-November but notes all work is weather-dependent.
