I-79 Overnight Guide Rail Installation Begins Monday Night in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight single-lane restrictions on Interstate 79 in Glenfield, Sewickley Hills, and Franklin Park boroughs and Ohio and Aleppo townships, Allegheny County will begin Monday night, October 16 weather permitting.

Single-lane and shoulder closures will occur on I-79 in both directions between I-279 (Parkway North) and the Neville Island Bridge weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday night, November 3. Crews will conduct guide rail installation work on mainline I-79.

Additionally, a single-lane and shoulder closure will occur on northbound I-79 over Glenfield Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, October 16-17. Crews will conduct electrical work for highway lighting and ITS cameras.

The work is part of the $26.49 million I-79 improvement project. Improvements include four bridge deck replacements, one bridge preservation, milling and resurfacing, preservation work on seven sign structures, installation of five new ITS signs, guide rail improvements, signage updates, and pavement marking installation. The majority of the project will conclude in early 2024.
