Weight Limit Posted on Route 89 in Rome Township, Crawford County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today a weight limit has been established/updated on the Route 89 (Church Run) bridge over Shirley Run in Rome Township, Crawford County.

The bridge has not previously had a weight restriction. The new restriction will limit travel on the bridge to one truck at a time.

The restriction was implemented after a routine inspection uncovered deterioration to the 54-foot, steel I-beam bridge.

Creating the weight restriction will reduce strain on the bridge and will preserve safety until repairs or a replacement can occur.

The bridge was built in 1952 and is classified as fair condition. The bridge is located between the intersection with Mageetown Road (Route 1032) and Bethel Road (Route 1013). Approximately 1,000 vehicles use the bridge daily, on average.

A listing of northwest bridges posted with weight restrictions is available at www.penndot.gov/District1.
