​Lane Restrictions Next Week on I-83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge over Susquehanna River Between Cumberland and Dauphin Counties

The bridge will be inspected

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that there will be daytime lane and shoulder restrictions next week on the northbound and southbound Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Cumberland and Dauphin counties. The restrictions will be in place so the bridge can be inspected. 

Weather permitting, this work will be performed Monday, October 30, through Sunday, November 5.

The northbound I-83 right lane will be closed from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday, October 30, to Friday, November 3, and from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5. The southbound right shoulder will be closed from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Saturday and Sunday. Three travel lanes each direction and all on/off ramps will remain open each day.

Inspectors plan to inspect the South Bridge using an inspection crane from the roadway.

There will be lane and shoulder closures in both directions on the bridge throughout November.Press releases will be issued prior to the implementation of any restrictions.

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.
