Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing utility designation work on Route 50 (Washington Pike) in Collier Township, Allegheny County will begin Monday morning, April 3 weather permitting.
A single-lane closure in the southbound direction will occur on Route 50 between the I-79 and Vanadium Road intersections weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Friday, April 14.
Crews from Columbia Gas will conduct the work.
Work on this $5.6 million widening project began in November 2022. The majority of the work in 2023 will be utility relocation work on Route 50 in Collier Township. Work in 2024 will include roadway widening to accommodate exclusive left turn lanes at the Washington Pike (Route 50) intersections with I-79 and Vanadium Road. Additionally, there will be a dual center turning lane between the two intersections. The Washington Pike and Vanadium Road intersection will be modified to a standard plus intersection, eliminating the dual driveways at Eat’n Park. The restaurant will be relocated further back from the roadway allowing for a single driveway point at this intersection. Other work includes new sidewalks, updated ADA curb ramps, traffic signal upgrades, signing and pavement marking updates, drainage and guide rail work, and other miscellaneous construction. Motorists will see single-lane restrictions with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction at all times. The turn lane and other modifications at the Vanadium Road intersection are expected to help alleviate congestion in that location. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in late 2024.
